Miriam (Rubin) Guterman
WORCESTER – Miriam “Mim” Ruth (Rubin) Guterman, age 91, of 629 Salisbury St., passed away Thursday, January 3rd after a brief illness.
Her husband of 62 years, Dr. Burte Guterman, died 2003. She leaves a son, Peter S. Guterman and his wife Deborah of Paxton; a daughter, Jane E. wife of David WAsser of Columbia, MD; two brothers: Dr. Judah Rubin and his wife Kyla of Mashpee and Dr. Herb Rubin and his companion, Ghislian Borno of Worcester; five grandchildren: Leah, Carl Bishop, Denae and Benny.
She was a graduate of Classical High School, Simmons College, and Yale University, where she received a Masters degree in Sociology. Miriam was a devoted wife and mother. She worked alongside her husband for thirty years in his psychiatric practice. A lifelong learner, she was the first person in the Worcester area to study and operate the electroencephaleograph machine. She then went on to assist her son, Peter in his business; Guterman International. She played an integral role in the success fo this company, and continued working ther until her eighty-ninth year.
Mim was an avid golfer and tennis player. She had a broad scope of hobbies and interests; which included gardening, flower arranging, collecting oriental art, and music. An accomplished pianist, she was on the board of Worcester Music Association and Opera Worcester. She was an avid reader. She had a fondness for pets, especially dogs. In her later years, she took great pleasure in her visits with Bart and Sam, her grand-dogs.She and her husband, Burte were among the ten founding families of Temple Sinai, Worcester. She was the first female president of the temple in 1978.The family would like to express their appreciation to the caregivers at the Jewish Healthcare Center as well as the home health care support staff under Paris Mbugue.
FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD AT 12:00 NOON ON SUNDAY, JANUARY 6TH IN TEMPLE SINAI, 661 SALISBURY ST. UNDER THE DIRECTION OF RICHARD PERLMAN OF BREZNIAK RODMAN FUNERAL HOME OF NEWTON. Burial will be in B’Nai Brith Cemetery.
A reception will follow at Temple Sinai.
